Best Time for Sitter & Toddler Photoshoot

The sitter stage — typically between 7 and 9 months — is a wonderful time for a photoshoot. Babies can sit independently, are wonderfully expressive, and are not yet fully mobile, making it easier to create beautiful, composed portraits.

Toddler sessions from 1 to 3 years are full of energy and character. We work at your child's pace, encouraging natural play and interaction to capture authentic expressions. No posing — just your little one being themselves.

Many families book a sitter session and return at 1 year for a cake smash session, creating a beautiful set of milestone portraits across your child's first year.

What is the best age for a sitter session?

The ideal age for a sitter session is between 7 and 9 months, when your baby can sit confidently on their own without support. At this stage, babies are alert, smiley, and wonderfully expressive, making it a beautiful window for milestone portraits. We can also do sessions slightly outside this range depending on your baby's development — please reach out and we can advise.

How do you handle active toddlers during a shoot?

Toddlers are wonderfully unpredictable, and we love that. Our sessions are designed to be flexible and playful — we follow your child's lead rather than trying to pose them. We create moments that encourage natural expressions and movement, so the portraits feel authentic and full of personality. No two toddler sessions are ever the same, and that is what makes them special.

Can siblings join a sitter or toddler session?

Absolutely — siblings are always welcome. Sibling portraits at this stage are especially beautiful as the relationship between children is full of genuine warmth and interaction. Please let us know in advance that you'd like to include siblings so we can plan the session flow accordingly.

What should my toddler wear to the session?

We have a full studio wardrobe of beautiful, age-appropriate outfits for toddlers. You are also welcome to bring a favourite outfit or something that reflects your child's personality. For best results, we recommend soft neutrals and pastels — creams, whites, and earthy tones photograph beautifully in our studio lighting.
