Our maternity backdrops, from white to deep red
The backdrop is half of every photograph, and it is chosen with you at the consultation. These are our frequently used backdrops, from white and sheer curtains to slate, olive and red velvet. Under each is a short note on what it does to a gown, and a handful of examples, the newest first.
White studio
Clean and bright. The gown is the only colour in the frame, which suits fitted gowns, denim and silhouettes. It is the backdrop we use most.
Sheer white curtains
Soft window light, with a blur of white behind you. Gentle on every skin tone, and the first choice for children and pale colours.
Light grey
A quiet neutral. It suits black gowns and bright colours equally, and gives a clean, slightly cool finish.
Dark grey
Dramatic and rich. Gold, champagne, olive and white all glow against it, and it is the most common backdrop for fabric in the air.
Slate blue-grey
Cooler than dark grey, with a green undertone. It makes champagne and gold look warm and white look luminous.
Olive
A warm olive canvas. Used mainly with champagne and olive silks, for a rich, earthy frame.
Warm tan and cream
A soft warm wall. It suits blush and dusty pink gowns, sarees, pampas grass and pleated gold.
Red and pink studio walls
A solid wall of colour behind a gown of the same colour. Bold, a little theatrical, and always photographed tone on tone.
Flower walls and arrangements
A wall or frame of flowers behind you, in pastels or in mixed colour, in the studio through the year. The most colourful setting here. The Christmas set, with a decorated tree and candles, is separate and is there in December only.
Pampas and disco balls
Dried grass and mirrored balls on a pale floor. A playful set that photographs warm.
Angel wings
Large white feather wings against a pale grey backdrop, in white or black. These wings have been retired from the studio.
Creative lighting
A circle of white light, a red heart, coloured gels in pink and blue, a palm-leaf shadow. Made with light rather than props.
Every set on this page is in the studio through the year, with two exceptions: the Christmas set is there in December only, and the angel wings have been retired. ---
Some of the outfits in these photographs belong to our clients and may not be available to hire. We cannot tell at a glance which ones, so if you see something you love, send us a screenshot on WhatsApp and we will tell you whether it is in the studio wardrobe.
