Blue maternity gowns, royal to powder
Royal and cobalt, powder and pale, dusty blue, teal and aqua: blue runs further across the range than any other colour here, from jewel to almost white. The newest first.
Some of the outfits in these photographs belong to our clients and may not be available to hire. We cannot tell at a glance which ones, so if you see something you love, send us a screenshot on WhatsApp and we will tell you whether it is in the studio wardrobe.
About blue
Strong blues. Royal and cobalt gowns, in long sleeves, with a thigh slit, a high neck, or a sheer mesh panel. They are made against white, a light grey or a dark grey; on dark grey the blue reads like a jewel.
Soft blues. Powder and pale blue in chiffon, with a long sheer train, or tulle in dusty blue. These are made on the sheer curtains or against a mid-grey, where a pale blue is light and cool without being washed out. A few are in a set of pale hydrangeas, which is the most delicate setting in the gallery.
Teal and aqua. Teal in a fitted gown in front of a wall of flowers, and aqua taffeta slipping off the shoulders against grey. They are the unusual ones.
Movement. About a quarter have fabric flying, mostly in powder and pale blue.
The hydrangea set. A royal blue gown among pale blue hydrangeas on a white floor, with an arched window behind, birdcages hung overhead, and in one frame a husband leaning over his wife with alphabet blocks spelling BOY on her bump.
Which blue suits which backdrop?
Royal on white or grey, powder on the curtains or a mid-grey, teal on a plain pale wall. We help you choose at the consultation.
Will powder blue look washed out?
Not on the sheer curtains, where it becomes airy, and not against a mid-grey, where it holds its colour. ---
