With your partner

Photographing the two of you

Why we plan for him from the start. A maternity photograph is of a mother, but the ones families frame tend to have two people in them. So we do not treat the couple frames as an add-on at the end. Each dress has its solo frames and its couple frames, and we move between them so neither feels rushed.

What he wears. Something that complements your outfit rather than matches it. Solid colours or a subtle pattern, no large prints, neon or logos. A white shirt and dark trousers go with almost every gown in this gallery, which is why you will see it so often here. If he wears a turban, bring one in a colour that sits well with your dress; we will tell you which during onboarding.

How the frames are built. You will see three kinds of couple photograph on this page. Close frames, where his hands are on the bump and the backdrop almost disappears. Full-length frames, where the gown and the train do the work and he stands as the still point. And the silhouettes, lit from behind against white, where the two outlines say everything and faces are optional. Most couples get all three in one session.

The moments in between. The photographs people love most are often the ones made between poses: a laugh, a forehead touch, a kiss on the shoulder. Anega keeps shooting through those. Come ready to talk to each other rather than to the camera.

Timing for two. The best weeks are still 32 to 35. A two-dress session is about two hours, which gives the two of you time to settle. If he is travelling for work, book around his dates first and we will fit the consultation in on a call.

Making it a family photograph. Children can join any dress, and so can parents, siblings or a dog, with a little notice. We gently suggest keeping at least one dress to the two of you, because that is what these images are about. The frames with children have their own page.

Questions we are asked
Does my husband have to come to the consultation?

No. The consultation is mostly about your outfits and the mood you want. We will send him a short note on what to wear.

He says he is not photogenic.

Almost every husband says that in the first five minutes. He does not need to pose. Anega tells him exactly where to stand and where to look, and the frames on this page are the result.

Can we do one dress solo and one together?

Yes, that is how most sessions run. You decide which dress is which during the consultation, and you can change your mind on the day. ---
