Red and maroon maternity gowns
Scarlet, wine, maroon, plum and rust: fitted gowns, sheer trains, red sequin against velvet. Red is the most dramatic colour in this gallery. The newest first.
Some of the outfits in these photographs belong to our clients and may not be available to hire. We cannot tell at a glance which ones, so if you see something you love, send us a screenshot on WhatsApp and we will tell you whether it is in the studio wardrobe.
About red and maroon
Red on red. Some of these were made against a solid red wall, in a gown of the same colour, so the frame is almost one tone, with your skin as the contrast. A few use a deep red velvet curtain behind a red sequin gown. Both are among the most dramatic frames in the gallery.
Red on white. On a white backdrop or the sheer curtains, a red gown with a train is the strongest picture here. The colour is at its most vivid, and a train thrown into the air looks like a single brushstroke.
Maroon and wine. Deeper than red, and kinder to most skin tones. Maroon gowns appear in fitted long sleeves, off the shoulder, or with cape sleeves, and the wine-coloured sequin gowns are among the most flattering in the studio.
Roses and turbans. Several frames include a bouquet of red roses, and in two the husband wears a deep red turban to match a maroon gown.
Flowers on red. A red gown pairs well with flowers. Some frames show a bouquet of red roses held low, with eucalyptus; others show a red train spread among cream and orange blooms on a fur rug, shot from above. The red stays the strongest colour in the frame.
Which red should I choose?
Warm reds and wines suit most skin tones, and maroon is the safest. We try two or three on you at the consultation.
Can I wear red against a red wall?
Yes, and it is one of the best looks in the gallery. Tone on tone, with your skin as the only contrast. ---
